What Decides My Success – Fate, God or Luck?

Summary: We are always curious about what are the factors leading to our success. Sadhguru tells us that fate, god and luck are not in our hands. What's not in our hands, we should not spend our time and energy on it. Instead, we should focus our entire energy into giving our best effort. Effective action needs perception and intelligence. So you should constantly work towards enhancing your perception and intelligence. There is no recipe for success. The real success is when you are operating at your full capacity.

What Decides Our Success in Life?

If we want to succeed in life, what plays a major role – fate, God, effort or luck?

Sadhguru: Maybe all of them, but in what proportion? When you say fate, obviously it is something you cannot do anything about. When you say luck, again it is something you cannot do anything about. God is also not something you can do anything about. The only thing that is in your hands is effort. Put one hundred percent into your effort and what happens, happens. Don’t leave proportions of your energy and your capability to luck¸ God, fate, and all these things – that is not your business. If there is such a thing, it will act. Your business is only effort , and the effort has to be incisive; it should be focused and calibrated. Simply creating effort is foolish. Hard labor alone is not going to get you somewhere. The right kind of action, timing and place are all important.

For these things to happen, you need perception and intelligence. That is all you must do in your life – constantly look for ways to enhance your perception and intelligence. The rest will anyway happen. And this is the one thing that humanity is unfortunately not doing.

For example, 25 years ago, everyone wanted to become a doctor. If you wanted to study, the first choice was medicine. Let us say you became a doctor, but everyone started coming to yoga programs and stopped having to go to doctors. Business would go down. It would no longer be a good profession to go into. Anyway, very few people are becoming doctors because they want to become doctors. There are a few who really want to be doctors, and who understand the human system and serve people, but others are becoming doctors because they think it is lucrative. It is quite disturbing for me that someone’s sickness is a lucrative business, because you would not want everyone to become healthy.

No Recipe For Success

Do not try to put up a recipe for your success. Real success happens when you use yourself to your full potential. It does not matter whether you become a doctor, politician, a yogi or whatever; success means you are living your life to your full potential. If that has to happen, you need perception and an active intelligence. “How do I grow my intelligence?” Don’t worry about that. The important thing is to enhance your perception. If you are able to see life just the way it is, you have the necessary intelligence to conduct it well. If you are not able to see life the way it is, your intelligence will work against you. Intelligent people on this planet are generally the most miserable people. This is simply because they have an active intelligence but no perception of life.

Never think, “I want to be successful.” Just see how to make yourself into a full-fledged being, and it will find expression.

People today are trying to broaden their minds, which may make one socially successful, but not truly successful. If you want to be truly successful, you must be able to see everything just the way it is, without distortions. If you can see everything just the way it is, life becomes a play, a game. You can play it joyfully and you can play it well for sure. If you can play it well, people will say you are successful.

You should not be aspiring for success. It is a miserable way to structure your life. You will simply cause pain and suffering to yourself and everyone because your idea of success right now is that everyone should be below you, while you are on top.

This is not success; this is sickness. Never think, “I want to be successful.” Just see how to make yourself into a full-fledged being, and it will find expression. If it finds good expression, people around you will say, “He is a great success!” That’s fine. People should recognize that you are a success, but you should not be thinking about how to be successful. That is a very wrong way to approach life.

Living Life to the Fullest

Once you have come as a human being, the potential of what it means to be human – all the dimensions of who you are – must be experienced. Only then would I say you are successful. And the ability to explore that potential, the daring to explore that potential, will come to you when you come to a state within yourself where there is no fear of suffering, that no matter what the life situation is, your experience of life will not alter itself.

Right now, Isha is involved in two dozen social projects. Some of them are mega-size projects in Tamil Nadu and the rest of the world. But I am not even concerned about the success of my activity. If they happen well, they will be beneficial for many people. But even if everything fails, I will still be blissful. I will do my best, there is no question about that because I have nothing to lose and nothing to gain whichever way, but the success of the activity depends on a variety of situations, and on cooperation from millions of people. However, what happens to these projects or how successful they are in terms of the world’s eyes will not determine my experience of life.

If you have to find fulfillment, if you have to know the joy of doing something, you will only know it when your action is total – one hundred percent. In everything that you are doing, if you are absolutely one hundred percent, you will notice your action will have a certain sense of exuberance. My activity stretches for almost 18 to 20 hours a day, seven days of the week, 365 days a year. Maybe in someone else’s mind this would look like slavery. It is not so for me because I spend my days in absolute exuberance, and that is so for a lot of people around me. This is success, if you want to name it that way, but what I would say is, this is life.

What Does it Take to be Successful?

Summary: To be truly successful, you need clarity of perception and an active intelligence. Success is not about running a little faster than someone else; it is about you operating at your full potential. Success will not come with qualifications. So do not seek success. Seek to enhance your competence - success will be the consequence.

The Key To Unlocking Success

Sadhguru: According to the world, success means you are running a little faster than someone next to you. That is not my idea of success. For me, success is “Am I able to use myself fully? Am I able to explore the potential of who I am to its fullest possibility?” If that has to happen, you need perception and an active intelligence.

What Do You See?

It happened once, Sherlock Holmes and Watson went camping in the mountains. Night fell and they went to sleep. In the middle of the night, Sherlock Holmes nudged Watson and Watson opened his eyes. Sherlock Holmes asked him, “What do you see?”

Watson looked up and said, “I see clear sky and stars, lots of stars.”

Sherlock Holmes asked, “What does that mean to you?”

Watson answered, “That means another nice, sunny day tomorrow. What does it mean to you?”

Sherlock Holmes said, “It means to me that someone has stolen our tent.”

If you want to do anything successfully, it is not your qualification that counts. It simply depends upon the clarity of your perception of the realities around you.

You can successfully walk through every aspect of your life only if you see life the way it is. Otherwise it will be a stumbling process. Success means you are walking faster than others. If you are walking faster than others and your perception is not good, obviously you will be more stressed and freaked than anyone else because you are bumping into everything.

If you want to do anything successfully, it is not your qualification that counts. It simply depends upon the clarity of your perception of the realities around you. If you see today very clearly, you may be selling a lottery ticket and making money. If you see tomorrow very clearly, you will be buying a plan to sell back tomorrow. If you see what is fifty years later very clearly, you would be doing something totally different.

The Wrong Thing At The Wrong Time

Those people who failed were also well-qualified, intelligent and capable. But they failed to perceive certain things at certain moments in their life. You bought the wrong piece of property at the wrong time. You got in the wrong business at the wrong time. You got the wrong guy to handle the wrong thing. That is all failure is, and that is all success is too.

Do not seek success, just seek competence – how to enhance yourself to a higher level.

People who have grown successful may not be extraordinarily brilliant in something, but they kept their clarity of perception clear. They just perceive what you are talking and right there, they can nail you down about what is there and what is not there.

So, do not seek success, just seek competence – how to enhance yourself to a higher level. If you are in a great level of competence, wherever you are put, you will anyway succeed. If you are enormously capable, if you grow yourself into a certain dimension of capability, success is not even a goal in your life. It is something that follows you wherever you go.

If a human being grows to a great potential and great capability, the whole world will seek him or her. Instead of you seeking the world, it is better that people come to you because you are of a certain potential and a possibility.

How to Make My Dreams Come True?

Summary: Future should be new - so put your dreams to sleep! Dreams are just enhanced version of your past experiences. So, dreams or ambitions means in a way that you are thinking of a race. How Do You Make Your Dreams Come True?

Q: Namaskaram. I have big dreams, which I hope will come true. But I am not a person who socializes easily with others and I am scared to face the world. How will I be able to follow my dreams once I finish college, without the fear of my dreams being dismissed?

Sadhguru: When people go to sleep, they have dreams. I am telling you, put your dream to sleep for some time. Do not dream anything now and fix what you will become in the world because it is too early.

Put your dreams to sleep for some time because dreams come from past experience of life.

In three to five years’ time, you will be an entirely different person. In reality, even from today to tomorrow, though it may not be a noticeable shift, something would have changed. So, you do not have to think today, “What am I going to do in the world?” because you will only fix up a very small, inefficient dream. Right now, your business is to imbibe as much as you can. Grow into a full-fledged human being – physically, mentally, emotionally and in terms of your intelligence. On all levels, you must become as much as you can become.

Ready for the Race

In some way, a dream or an ambition means you are thinking of some kind of a race. They are calling it a rat race these days. If you enter the rat race, it is mainly about who is better than whom. You have to be a rat to qualify. That is a huge backwards step in the evolutionary process. If you win, maybe you are a super-rat, but still a rat. Do not think in terms of, “Where will I be, how much ahead of somebody or behind somebody?” This is a time to absorb as much as you can. This is not a time for you to yield mangoes. This is a time to pluck the damn flowers out and just grow.

If you want to win a race, it will not happen just because you desire it. You must build an appropriate machine. What you have is a Maruti 800, but you are thinking of winning a Formula One race. You can dream as much as you want, about how Lewis Hamilton was trying to overtake you, but with your Maruti 800, you went off ahead of him! You can dream all that, but if you go on the track and try to do something, the four wheels of your Maruti will fly in four directions.

Do not try to win the race. Just build a good enough machine – that is the most important thing. Thinking of winning the race means you are looking back and seeing, “Somebody is behind me.” If you have a bunch of idiots around you and you are winning the race, you will be a better idiot – that’s all. Do not ever think on those lines. Wanting to be better than someone is a wrong direction that has been set for the whole of humanity. This will leave you in a state of strife all the time. Above all, if you enjoy someone else’s failing, it is a sickness.

Beyond Your Dreams

What should you do in the world? You should do what is most needed, not what you fancy in your head. What you fancy in your head may be irrelevant to the world. Then what is the point of doing that? Too many people have done what they fancy and destroyed the world in many different ways. If we can joyfully do what is needed, then we will find expression and people will gather and support that activity – then things will happen.

Put your dreams to sleep for some time because dreams come from past experience of life. Our future should have nothing to do with our past, otherwise we will just recycle the past and think it is the future. Most people’s idea of future is to take a piece of past, apply make up on it and think it is future, a little improved.

I want to destroy your dreams. Let them be destroyed, so that you aspire to just grow yourself to your full potential.

Future should happen new. What you could not dream of should happen in your life – that is my blessing to you. What you could not imagine must happen. If what you could dream happened, what is the use of that? You can only dream what you know. If only what you know happens, it is a poor life. Let something happen that you cannot dream of right now – only then, life is exciting.

I want to destroy your dreams. Let them be destroyed, so that you aspire to just grow yourself to your full potential.

Timing – Most Important Factor in Achieving Success

Summary: For you to be successful in the world, you need capability and intelligence. But the most important aspect that most people miss, is that you need to have a sense of timing. If timing is not right, even best actions will not yield results. To arrive at the timing is not simple; but Sadhguru gives a very simple method. Do not look at things as important or unimportant - do everything with absolute intention, attention and intensity of expression. Do everything with total involvement; be at your best every moment!

Why Timing Is Everything

Questioner: Sadhguru, at times, I see myself relentlessly pursuing goals, with a kind of a go-getter’s attitude. At other times, I am deliberately very patient, and I wait for things to unfold in their own unique and beautiful way. According to you, what is the better approach?

Sadhguru: In terms of doing anything in the world, we should know what we are doing. Capability, intelligence, all these things are needed. But one important aspect that people tend to miss, especially when they are young, is timing. If you do not time your actions right, even the best actions will go waste. Those who do not know how to time their life, will look at the astrological chart and say, “This is a good time, bad time, auspicious time, or inauspicious time.” There is no standard chart for this.

If you do not time your actions right, even the best actions will go waste.

Timing is most important. This is something I am constantly striving for people around me to understand – the significance of timing. They understand the significance of action. But most of the time, they do not understand the significance of timing. If the timing is right, even a small action will produce a huge impact. If the timing is wrong, even if you push hard, only little will happen. How do you arrive at the timing? This is a complex affair. One aspect is, you as a human being are not in the same state of physical and mental competence 24 hours a day. It is fluctuating all the time. When you want to hit an important shot, you must be at your best. You have to take care of this timing. It takes a lot of experience and wisdom to get the timing with the world. But at least with you, you time it. When you are at your best, you do important things. When you are not so good, you do not do it.

Being In the Zone

Recently, someone told someone else about his experience of driving with me, many years ago. He still remembered it since it so terrified him, because my right leg is heavy. He said, “The way Sadhguru was driving that day, I said, ‘Sadhguru, don’t drive like this.’” On a particular day when I’m on, I know that day I can do anything, and I will do it right. On another day, when I’m a little not there, then I know on this day I should step back and go a little more cautiously, like everyone else. There is also timing with the rest of the world, with outside situations. To hit the right thing at the right time in outside situations takes much more experience and observation. But at least the timing with yourself must happen, that you are at your best when you want to do important things.

Do not decide what is important, what is not important. Just pay the same attention to everything, and apply yourself with the same level of intensity.

Once you understand this, you will realize it is extremely important to keep yourself at your best, every moment of your life. Because every little thing that you do, if you learn to do it with as much attention as the so-called big things, then you will see the cumulative impact of those little things you do, over a period of time, will be so big. These little things add up to something phenomenal, simply because you took care to do them with absolute intention, attention, and intensity of expression.

Before you realize all these things properly within yourself and around yourself, one simple, fundamental thing you can do is this: Do not decide what is important, what is not important. Just pay the same attention to everything, and apply yourself with the same level of intensity. If God comes, same intensity; if an ant comes, same intensity of attention and involvement. If you just do this, everything will sort itself out.

Right now, the biggest problem with human beings is they think, “This is important – that’s not important.” “This person is great – that person is no good.” “This is okay – that is not okay.” “This is God – that is the devil.” In this, they are becoming half alive. Because half the time, they are not there (with what they are doing), because they think it is not important. You are breathing right now. Is it not important? You must do it with total involvement and intensity. Then we will call you a yogi.

A Simple Method

Timing is the most important thing, because the time and the energy you have in your life are limited resources.

There is no such thing as important and not important. Whether you look at your friend or at someone you do not like, whether you are doing something that is socially important or not so important, as far as you are concerned as a life, every moment of your life is equally important. Everything that you do is important. What is not important, just do not do it. Why are you investing your life in something that you think is not important? Let’s say you are doing something silly. It does not matter if I think it is not important. But you think it is important. Only if you think it is important, you must invest your life in it. Otherwise, why? If you do this, you will arrive at the timing. It will take a little time, but you will arrive at the timing, and that timing is extremely important.

If you watch games like cricket or golf, you will see they always talk about the timing of hitting the ball. It is not about the strength. One person hits the ball wasting energy. Another person just flicks it, and it goes to the same place. This is timing! That is true in your life too. Timing is the most important thing, because the time and the energy you have in your life are limited resources. No one has endless energy. No one has endless time. So, you have to time it right. First thing is to start observing yourself. When you are at your best, you must do things. And if you observe yourself sufficiently, you will see you have to be at your best every moment.

Sadhguru tells us that in some situations, you can not get away from being cunning, like when negotiating between two nations. But to work smoothly in the society, most important is that you create a confidence in everyone, that they can trust your integrity. It is true that you can make some money by being cunning, but is it worth the amount of effort needed in your mind? To live in ease, you must create an atmosphere of trust around you. Sadhguru also shares his profound wisdom, on what really is life's takeaway!

Which Is the Way to Success: Being Cunning or Earning Trust?

Q: Namaskaram Sadhguru, I would like to be honest and straight. But I find that people who are cunning make it faster in the material world. So what do I do about it?

Sadhguru: We do not know what is the nature of your work, what kind of transactions you are involved in. In some transactions, cunning is the law. Suppose you are involved in negotiating between two nations. Being straight is not going to work. Cunning is the law, isn’t it? It is always about outsmarting the other. Is it the right thing or the wrong thing? This is not for me to decide or you to decide. It is a reality of our times.

Make a Living or Make a Life?

If I am cunning, will I succeed? Try and see. You may get cornered. If you cross some lines, you may get imprisoned. If you do not get imprisoned, you may get shunned by other people. Before you try anywhere else, try this with your family. It is better to experiment in a safer atmosphere! Every day, deceive them with something. For some time, they will be fooled and you will get a few things. After some time, when they know what you are doing – which they will know – you will see that slowly you do not belong to the family any more. They may tolerate you for some time, but you will never be included. If it crosses certain limits, they know what to do with you.

When it comes to give and take, if you are very clever, you can take more.

Creating an atmosphere of trust, creating this confidence in everyone that, “You can trust me. Maybe you cannot trust my judgment, but you can trust my integrity” – if you create this, you will see your life will become smooth in the society in which you live. Maybe you will make a little less money than someone else, but your life will become smooth. Otherwise, so many things will be after you.

When it comes to give and take, if you are very clever, you can take more. Some people, with their extra cleverness, may manage a better life than someone else. You may make a living. You will never make a life out of it. People of good times, you know what’s happened! Do not succumb to that.

Know the Ease of Living

When you lie, when you cheat, you may make some money – I am not questioning that – but considering the amount of effort needed in your mind, it is not worth it. Suppose you tell one version of something to one person, another version to someone else and a third version to a third person, do you know how much extra work you have to do in your mind? If you want to know the ease of living, it is important that you maintain a trustful atmosphere around you. Otherwise life gets super-complicated and many people go crazy after some time.

In a love affair, you give everything that you can. You don’t care a damn whether you get something or not.

In recent times in India, a lot of people who lived flamboyant lifestyles are either in prison or in hiding here and there. At one time, people thought they were having a good time – not anymore. Things will catch up with you. Even if the outside does not catch up with you, even if you successfully manage the outside, the inside will catch up with you.

This unnecessary extra activity in your mind itself will catch up with you. Your entire life will become a transaction. That means you are a marketplace. A marketplace is not a beautiful place. Maybe there is profit, but it is not a beautiful place because it is about how I can give less and take more. This is not a love affair. In a love affair, you give everything that you can. You don’t care a damn whether you get something or not. And there is beauty to this. There is life.

Life Has No Take-Away

Above all, how profound is your experience of life? How much you have gathered would matter only if you could transport it with you when you die. I was speaking in London and a very prominent group of people were there. After I spoke for an hour-and-a-half, one man said, “All this is okay, but what is the takeaway?” I looked at him and said, “At the end of your life, whatever is the takeaway, that is the takeaway here also.”

There is no takeaway with life. Have you been touched by this life or not? Have you known tears of much tenderness? Have you known love?

In some communities in India, during burials, if a person weighs around fifty kilograms, it is a rule that we must put one hundred kilograms of salt beneath the body and above the body, so that every bone will dissolve and become a part of the earth as quickly as possible. But in Western societies, people are boxing them up so that maggots can eat them from inside! They do not want to merge. First, the wood has to melt. It will take a long time. These days it is chemically-treated wood, so most of them will never merge with the earth. Especially if you make a golden casket for yourself, you will never merge. And of course, somebody is going to steal it after some time and throw you all over the place!

Do not get too smart with life. You got ten rupees more than someone, but you missed life – I do not think it is smart. You wore more gold chains than someone else, but you missed life – there is nothing smart about this. This is the dumbest thing you can do.

There is no takeaway with life. Have you been touched by this life or not? Have you known tears of much tenderness? Have you known love? Have you known joy? Have you known ecstasy? Above all, have you known the innermost core that is making all this happen?

How Do I Make Money as an Entrepreneur?

March 31, 2018

Summary: Money happens as a consequence of a successful business. Instead of thinking about money, you should focus on what you want to create, what real value you want to add to people's lives. If you look at the lives of successful entrepreneurs, they did not bother too much about money. When they created something of value to everyone's life, money came, along with the joy and satisfaction of enhancing other's lives. So, you should look at money as just one more material to make things happen.

Entrepreneurship Isn’t Just a Money-Game

Sadhguru: For an entrepreneur, I know money is important, but money does not come because you desire money. It comes because you do something well. If you think only about money, that means in my understanding, you are only interested in the consequence, not the process. Those who are only interested in the consequence and not in the process will only dream about it, they will not do it.

Instead of constantly thinking about how much money you want to earn, if you look at what you want to create and if what you create is truly worthwhile, money will happen.

Instead of constantly thinking about how much money you want to earn, if you look at what you want to create and if what you create is truly worthwhile, money will happen. At the end of your life, you cannot take what you have gathered. What matters is only what you have created.

If you look at modern-day entrepreneurs who made it big, such as Narayana Murthy, these people did not bother about money. They bothered about creating something. And because what they created was valuable to everyone, money naturally came in. Above all, if you are creating what you value, if you are creating what you see as being of immense value to everyone’s life, you will have the joy of creating it.

An entrepreneur becomes an entrepreneur because he wants to create something that he thinks must happen. If you want to create something, money is a part of it. Without money, no activity moves properly in today’s world. So money is just another one of the materials to make things happen. Like there are material managers, you need a money manager.

How much money you make depends upon the times. The huge success stories of today like Infosys are relevant to a certain time in history. At a certain time, certain technologies and breakthroughs allow these things to happen. You should not look for those things. You must just look at what it is that you want to create, in what way do you want to add value to people’s lives. If you are really offering something of great value to people’s lives, why do you have to count the money? It will anyway come.

Sometime ago, Narayana Murthy was with us in a conference and he was sharing a few things. He started out as a small entrepreneur and today, has become a name the entire world respects. When he chose his partners when Infosys was starting out – which is an important part of any business – the other six people – were many years junior to him. But when he took them as a partner, he gave them an almost equal equity in his business as he himself had.

People told him he was crazy. Most of his partners had only a year of experience in the software industry and he was giving them so much stake in the company. So he replied, “It does not matter because I am not doing this for money. I want their hundred percent involvement. They should not be thinking of anything other than making this into a success.” And for him, it paid off because it is better to own fifteen percent of 50,000 crores than own hundred percent of five crores.

And above all, it is most important that people who are working with us are willing to throw their lives into it, because without everyone putting their lives into it, something big is not going to happen. If you work in a cautious way: “I will do eight hours work, you do eight hours work” – this will not make an enterprise. An entrepreneur has to live it. It is not just about making a living, it is about making a life out of the activity we perform. An entrepreneur is self-propelled – he does not need anything from outside to push him. He or she wants to push himself or herself hundred percent to their limits and do something. If this has to happen, the fundamental incentive is about creating something larger than yourself. Money is just a consequence.

Sustainable Business – Order of the Jungle!

May 14, 2018

Summary: If you want to build a sustainable business, then you have to take inspiration from the order of the jungle. A forest will live for millions of years, whereas a manicured garden will not survive even for a month without the gardener! So, chaos is not a choice; you have to reap out of the existing chaos. People think if something as chaos, like the order of the jungle - either because they do not understand or because they have a limited external view, looking at everything with a linear mind.

Leadership – Finding the Order in Chaos

Vellayan Subbiah: Sadhguru, your analogy of a manicured garden versus a jungle, it is very similar to this thought of basically, structure versus chaos. Is it important for leaders to manage in a state of chaos, or do they need to bring that chaos down to a more structured way? For the corporate world, how do leaders need to think about that? Should they let the chaos kind of evolve into itself? Do they need to bring more structure to it?

Sadhguru: Chaos is not a choice. The choice that you have made is to reap out of the existing chaos. If you choose to make something chaotic, that will be stupid. It will go somewhere else.

Something looks chaotic not necessarily because it is chaotic but simply because you have a linear mind and something does not fit into your straight line, so you think it is out of order.

For a gardener’s mind, a jungle will look chaotic. But no, there is a very deep order there. That is why a forest will live for millions of years and a garden will not last for a month without maintenance. People are thinking of something as chaos because they have an external view of things. They do not have an internal, integrated view of that. If you understand the ecosystem – today, slowly human beings are beginning to understand – we understand that is the greatest order because that is the only thing which has lived for millions of years.

Stuck in Straight Lines

A snake will not move in a straight line. This does not mean its mobility is not good. Just travel without using your limbs, let me see. Without limbs, the snake has found a way and he is very effective. He finds his own way of life, he chooses his terrain accordingly and he manages.

Something looks chaotic not necessarily because it is chaotic but simply because you have a linear mind and something does not fit into your straight line.

So this is about different types of lives, different types of people, different types of terrains, different types of activities – to reap the best out of it, you have to harness that, rather than beating everyone into one type of system, because in that, you may produce some level of efficiency, but you will destroy people and situations. Essentially, you will destroy the existing ecology and try to create something new.

For example, to build anything in the ashram, we have never bought a bulldozer and leveled any land. Whichever way the terrain is, I design accordingly and build on that. When I go to the US for example, I see with great distress that if they want to build fifty houses, they just level out fifty acres completely. This is the worst thing you can do. You have no sense of how much life you are disturbing.

You think order means it must be in a particular way. No, there is a different kind of order, and if you do not allow that within the human mind, within the human consciousness and in the actions that we perform, then we become straight lines. Maybe somebody else appreciates us, but we are miserable doing what we are doing simply because we are straitjacketed all the time about how we should be and how we should do.

Instead of harnessing everything to its best the way it is, you want to turn everything the way you think it should be. This is essentially because you think too much of yourself. You think you are better than the natural forces that are working, which have shaped everything the way it has been shaped.

The Order of the Jungle

So chaos is not a choice. There is always a certain order, which is not logically correct. The order of the jungle is not logically correct, but it is the best order because it has lasted longer than anything else. Everyone is talking about building sustainable businesses. If you want a sustainable business, you must take to the order of the jungle.

Today, in India, we use the phrase “jungle raj” (Referring to the Hindi word – rule) because people believe a jungle means disorder. I am using the word “jungle” as a very superior order. It is a highly sophisticated order where you do not see any straight lines, but still everything is in place. Everything is in such a way that it can function like this for a million years and still last. That is definitely a superior order, isn’t it?

How To Deal With Uncertainty?

March 24, 2017

Summary: Uncertainty means possibilities. You will seek certainty, only when you are in a state of compulsive reaction. Certainty means stagnation, no growth. So, instead of dealing with uncertainty on the outside, what is needed is a certainty in your interiority. Sadhguru says - "Interiority is a dimension by itself. It cannot be crafted according to external situations...If you think your work is important, the first thing you should do is work upon yourself, so that internally you are a stable being, no matter what the situation is externally".

Life is Uncertain, But Uncertainty is Freedom

Sadhguru: Nothing in the outside world is certain, that’s a fact. It’s uncertain and that’s what makes it challenging. Uncertainty means things are changing; in other words there is no limbo. If you are walking fast, every step is new terrain. This new terrain is what you are calling “uncertainty” right now.

Uncertainty Means Possibilities in Life

For those seeking opportunity, uncertainty is the best time. Those who have a vision will make it a possibility; those who don’t, will look at it as a problem. But, because you are in a constant state of compulsive reaction in your mind, you are seeking certainty.

Certainty is a state of limbo. If there is certainty there is status quo, isn’t it? Status quo in a business, political or social situation means nothing changes; nothing evolves. By seeking certainty, ultimately, you are pitching for stagnation. If things are stagnant, you will get bored. If things are happening rapidly, then you don’t have the balance to handle it. So, the problem is not with uncertainty; the problem is your interiority has become uncertain. If we have to fix the whole world for you to be peaceful, that’s never going to happen. What we have to do instead is fix your interiority. What do we mean by that? It means, if your interiority is not compulsive, you will handle every situation to the best of your ability. Maybe you can’t handle it like someone else, but you will handle it to the best of your ability, that’s about it. You won’t suffer every situation you come across simply because you are in a compulsive state of reaction.

Freedom From Certainty & Uncertainty

Interiority is a dimension by itself. It cannot be crafted according to external situations – “there is certainty in life right now, so I will have one kind of interiority.” “Now there is uncertainty, so I will have another kind of interiority.” “When people around me are sweet, I’ll have one kind of interiority. When people are nasty, I will have another kind of interiority.” It doesn’t work that way. It is not something you determine; it is something that is. So, how to keep it? Well, there is no way to keep it. If it is conscious, it won’t be compulsive.

You came here without any investment. And you will leave without any capital in your hand. Whatever happens in-between, you are anyway on the profit side, because all that you have is the experience of life. The important thing is how you experience it. So, if your interiority is in a non-compulsive, conscious state, then you determine your experience. With situations, you determine only part of them, the world determines a part of them. But how you experience life is one hundred percent in your hands.

The Formula for Blissful Chemistry Within

If you think your work is important, the first thing you should do is work upon yourself, so that internally you are a stable being, no matter what the situation is externally. When you are running a large business or enterprise, it’s not just about you. Often, there are another thousand people involved with you. So how you handle a situation not only impacts your life, but another thousand lives. Once you grow, the challenges will naturally grow; there’s no question about it. But if you want to get into a jockey’s place where you want to handle the horse, if you want to handle a situation, no matter how large, the first thing you have to do is equip yourself. I can teach you a way with which you can create a stable and blissful chemistry within yourself, your ability to deal with all the variety of ups and downs in life can be greatly, greatly enhanced. How? With yoga.

Yoga gives you this possibility that if you simply sit here, there is a little space between you and your body, there is a little space between you and your mind, and there is a little space between you and the world. Once you create this space within you, once you know what is you and what isn’t, that is the end of suffering. When there is no fear of suffering, you will be able to look at everything with utmost clarity and address every issue to the best of your intelligence and capability. Situations will never overwhelm you.

112 Ways to Immediate and Ultimate Wellbeing

When I say yoga, I don’t mean yoga in a studio in Mumbai or LA or on television. Yoga has to be approached in a comprehensive way. Yoga offers a systematic way of working upon your interiority by showing you 112 ways in which you can address your immediate and ultimate wellbeing. It is an entire science and technology. If you invest 30-40 minutes a day, we can ensure that in terms of vitality in your body and mind, you will be at least 10 years younger in the next six months. And your ability to create and manage things will be such that what you can do right now in 8 hours, you will very easily do it in 4-5 hours. If you are sleeping 8 hours a day, very easily you can bring it down to 5-6 hours a day without stressing the body. So, 40 minutes of investment will give you extra time, extra clarity, extra possibility, and definitely extra money!

In other words, yoga is the technology that lets you read the user’s manual of the most sophisticated gadget – the human mechanism. If you know how to handle the human mechanism, then what about external situations? Well, some you can handle, some you can’t. But as long as you know how to handle yourself, it is not really a problem. It may be a challenge, but it’s not a problem. There are only situations and situations and situations in life. Only those who don’t know how to handle them label them as a “problem.”

You Need Clarity not Certainty in Life

Don’t think in terms of how to turn everything into something else. Learn how to see everything for what it is. For this you need clarity. If you need clarity, you need an unclouded and unprejudiced mind, a mind which is not in a state of confusion, but in the lap of consciousness. That mind will see everything as it is. Once it is like this, if you want to turn everything into an opportunity it’s up to you, or you can enjoy it as it is. The greatest possibilities in life are its uncertainties.
