When someone else can determine whether you are happy or unhappy, is it not the worst kind of slavery?

A chant is not cultural but an existential thing. It is about the sounds, not the meaning.

If you want joy, you have to turn inward because that is where it is generated.

Joy, peace, and love aren't spiritual goals. They are the starting point for living sensibly.
