Why should we leave memory aside? | Sadhguru at Harvard Medical School | #5

Synopsis: I’m wondering, one of the things you were asked is, as people are recovering from certain kinds of processes, maybe they’re entering different states of consciousness that science has not yet learned about. I’m wondering if that theory is necessary because we know at the plasticity of the brain, and extraordinary things that the brain can do to recover, functions...

... in different parts as dimensions. That’s one, and maybe that’s a more technical question. I have a larger question for Sadhguru, you spoke very eloquently about memory, intellection, asking us to put those aside, and I’m trying to understand exactly what you mean. Because I haven’t caught it, I’m sorry to say. Because it seems to me those are the unique or extraordinary things about us as human beings. The fact that we have this historical memory going back to Mesopotamia and beyond in India thousands of years ago. And also as individual human beings, an intellection which allows us to build spaceships. So I’m not quite sure how you mean for us to leave those aside or place less value on them?

Suppose humanity makes it past this tumultuous phase, what would we do? | Sadhguru at Shiva Nadar College | #2

Synopsis: It feels like at every point in human history, for society, there’s always been this one challenge or one recurring. For instance, for most of human history, a society’s main issue would have been to protect itself from outsiders. In my opinion, right now, humanity’s or society’s issue is climate change or nuclear war. So, it feels like solving this has been...

Are you a slave to your genetics?

Synopsis: In response to a question, during an in-conversation event at the Harvard Medical School, Sadhguru explains that it is only human beings who can expand their consciousness. What is Consciousness?

Consciousness is the basis of life and existence. It is not something that you can do. It is not an act. It is not an idea. It is not even a quality. Consciousness does not happen by doing something. You simply have to allow it to happen. Consciousness is not of the mind. If consciousness is fully on, you can make your life whichever way you want. This is true freedom - freedom to make anything out of life. And to move towards this, you should come to a state of abandon!

Predetermined Answers – A Zen Story

A Questioner narrates an interesting Zen story to Sadhguru, and also shares an explanation about it. Sadhguru tells us that we can not make a moral out of a Spiritual process. Spirituality is about a way to be, and not a way to do. An action is only relevant to the situation one exists in. So, there is no right or wrong answer, there is no right or wrong action - there is only appropriate action and an appropriate answer. Approaching any situation with predetermined answers is not appropriate. Sadhguru says, this is the essential difference between morality and consciousness.

How Does Anesthesia Work?

Though it's been almost two hundred years that man has been using anesthesia, still the medical science does not really know how it works. In this conversation between Sadhguru and an anesthesiologist, Sadhguru sheds some light in it. He tells us that anesthesia does not take away even a bit of consciousness. It is only taking away pain and memory, and even in memory it is only blocking the recollection process, not the recording process.
