Why is there so much disparity? | Sadhguru at Columbia University | #9

Synopsis: There’s so much suffering in the world. Like when I travel on work, or otherwise, one observes that on one hand there is lack of basic peace, or there is so much violence. And on the other hand, there is even a lack of basic resources and abject poverty. So I would be curious to hear your perspective on, why does every single person have such different starting points...

Which would mean, like a child based in Africa doesn’t even have water and perhaps will die of malnutrition, has a very different starting point than say, a billionaire’s child who’s sitting somewhere in the middle of North America. So why this disparity? And then, how and where it sits in the larger scheme of things or in the cycle of cosmos or life, if that’s what we call it? And also then, that gets me to the question, then who are we?

How should we adapt to the changes in the world? | Sadhguru at University of Michigan | #1

Synopsis: ...

...In the past couple of years we’ve seen that change is coming in multiple forms. Be it in education, be it in the job opportunities, be it in culture. Earlier it would take about 20-30 for us to realize and see this change. But today it’s happening at a much faster rate. How do you think we, as the youth, should adapt to change like this and be prepared for it?

Is Virtual Reality A Threat To Humans?

Synopsis: No technology is harmful. It's the state of human mind that will determine if technology is useful or harmful. Because we are in a compulsive mode, we don't know when to start and when to stop. So, the problem is not technology, the issue is of compulsiveness - or absence of consciousness. So, any technology, virtual reality or artificial intelligence, is never harmful - the question is if we will...

How Can India Become Prosperous?

Sadhguru shares a simple model to double India's farmers income, which can catapult Indian economy! He shares that the two biggest challenges for Indian farmers are investment in irrigation, and lack of negotiating power in the market. To address these - he suggests farmers coming together into Farmer-Producer Organizations (FPO) with minimum 10,000 acres of land. Private sector can establish community micro-irrigation for groups of farmers on chargeable basis. Another opportunity for private sector is to convert 'filth to wealth' - using  36 billion liters of sewage from India’s cities and towns, we can micro-irrigate 6 to 9 million hectares. For corporate sector, this is an investment with very substantial returns, both financially and in terms of providing millions of human beings with a life of dignity and prosperity.

How Can We Transform Indian Farming?

The basis of human civilization is its ability to do agriculture. Transforming mud into food is agriculture. India has over 12,000 years of history of doing agriculture. Sadhguru tells us - around 300 years ago, India was the most industrialized nation on the planet. It is only when the British destroyed it, that people moved into agriculture for subsistence. At the time of independence 77% of the population was into agriculture, and still about 60%. This is an inefficient way - and we need to move them into other trades, crafts and skills. Because in the last 50 years, farmers have moved from subsistence farming to cash crops, their nourishment levels of dropped alarmingly - this is a serious concern. So, organized agriculture at large scale is needed on priority.
