Why should children learn Yoga?

Transcript: See everybody can drive a car today. But not everybody can hold the car on the road at 200km/hr. They'll fly off. Because for that you need a lot of understanding, of how the machine functions. Similarly, if you function at a rudimentary level in your life, everybody will eat, sleep, reproduce, and die. ... profound understanding and perception of who we are and how we function. So this is what yoga is. If we bring this at an early age, free of all cultural trappings we can bring it. In such a way that it's purely scientific and logically correct way of doing things. If we bring this across the world into every child's life, you will definitely find a more peaceful and joyful adults as they grow up. Why is this important? There is substantial, medical, and scientific evidence that only when you're peaceful and joyful, does your body and mind function at its best. If you want to be successful, your body and your mind should function at its best. There's no question about it. This, at least this much must happen to every child. If this has to happen, it is important that children do not form strong ideas about anything. That their life remains a possibility to explore their life, throughout their life. The aspect of exploration should remain alive. The aspect of having a certain sense of wonder to everything that we see, must be there. By believing things, by attaching, or identifying with certain ideologies and philosophies, we become dead sure about everything. When we become dead sure about everything, if somebody else believes something else, then clashes will happen. The fundamental aspect of education is to expand our horizons. Unfortunately, it's just working the reverse way. Simply because we are putting set ideas into children's minds. So yoga will undo that damage. That it will not allow a human mind to become established in that way. This means. What this fundamentally means is, the nature of existence is uncertain. In this uncertainty, you're trying to create false sense of certainty. Either you simply, falsely believe that this ocean is going to be always calm like this, and I'm going to say lower this. Or, you learn to navigate through a violent, unpredictable ocean. You learn to navigate through that. Either you're equipped for it, or you're not. So yoga is that aspect which clearly celebrates the uncertainties of life. We are not trying to create a certainty. We're just trying to equip ourselves to handle uncertainty.

The power of the mind – Manifest whatever you want

Synopsis: This is a very powerful and insightful talk by Sadhguru. He explains that anything that we want to manifest in the world, needs to be first clearly manifested in the mind. For that to happen, one needs to transition from a monkey mind, full of unnecessary thoughts and imitation, to a well established mind. Kalpavriksha, is not a tree - a well established mind, a mind which is in a state of 'samyukti'...

Why is it Important to Meditate?

Meditation (dhyana)  means to go beyond the limitations of the physical body and the mind. The body and the mind are just accumulations over a period of time - body is just a heap of food one has eaten and the mind is just a heap of impressions one has gathered from the outside. The body and the mind are just like bank balance - they are your property but they are NOT You. Just like one has a home and a bank balance, one has a body and a mind. A good bank balance, a good body and a good mind are needed to live a good life, but they are not sufficient.  The instruments of the body and mind are okay for survival, but they will not fulfill a human being because the quality of a human being is to seek something more. Human life will not be fulfilled with just eating, sleeping, reproducing and dying. All those things are needed in one's life, but still one will not feel complete even if one has fulfilled all these things. This is because the quality of a human being has crossed a certain boundary of awareness. It has to seek something more, otherwise it will never be satisfied. It has to become 'Unlimited' – and Meditation or dhyana is a way of moving into the unlimited dimension of who you are.

If the enormous energy of a human being is not channelized, they will end up performing violent acts. This is the significance of yoga - through which individuals can learn to harness their energies to reach their ultimate potential. Is Humanity Headed for Crisis? Is Yoga the Solution?

Yoga essentially means to start relaxing your boundaries, to become inclusive. Right now, the biggest irony is, that the two wonderful instruments that a human being is endowed with, body and mind - have turned against your own wellbeing! Through yoga, this can be reversed and they can work for you. The current generation, unlike the previous generations, puts every aspect of their life on social media. When they are so willing, this is an opportune time for transformation. But this window will last only for the next 15-20 years. And this is absolutely essential, otherwise, it is estimated that with nothing to do, more than 90% of the population will go on chemicals; in another 70 years of time, 50% of the population may commit suicide!

Shambavi Mahamudra, locks your energies, and divert them in a completely different direction - turn it around in a way that instead of a loss, there is a gain. There is also medical evidence of the benefits. The cortisol awakening response, and brain derived neurotropic factors show significant increase. The inflammatory markers greatly improve; and after 90 days of practice the DNA shows that you are 6.4 years younger! Most significant aspect about Shambhavi is that people become very peaceful, pleasant, and at the same time their brain activity goes up.

When you constantly give your hundred percent to everything, a point will come when you surpass all limits and reach total effortlessness. Sadhguru shares the story of Russian ballet dancer Nijinsky to elaborate on this. However, you can also achieve the same state, through a yogic posture, through the intensity of inactivity. And this can be sustained much longer.
