... in yoga we don't look at the glands like that. But medically what you're calling as thyroid is that secretion within you which is trying to calibrate your system on a daily basis. It's just calibrating. How much digestion should happen, how much energy should be produced, how much fat should be produced, how much muscle should be built, everything. It's trying to calibrate your physical structure. Your physical structure is very closely related to your psychological structure. Today there is substantial evidence to show you that if you sit here and think of the mountain, your glandular function will happen in a certain way. If you think about a tiger, it will happen another way. You think about an ocean, it will happen another way. You think of a man or a woman, it will happen another way. Just a thought. Nothing. No contact with mountain, no contact with tiger, no contact with man, woman or ocean. Just a thought will fluctuate the glandular function. I'm saying that is how fine the system is that it is trying to calibrate everything to keep you in a good place. The thyroid, it's easily noticeable. The first thing your physiological and psychological parameters get thrown off a bit simply because disturbance. And another dimension is, what's the disturbance that's happening from within you? Your own psychological patterns. Another dimension of disturbance is, what kind of food is getting into you? There is no way you can eat anything today, which is not chemically infested. If you're eating very organic food, little organic chemicals they're using. It's come to that place. It's very difficult to eat something that's just grown in the wild forest, you can pluck out something and eat. That's very, very little not even a small percentage of people are capable of eating that anymore. It's all from the marketplace. One of the main reasons is, human beings are becoming less and less active as technology grows. In a day, on an average, average human being, how much activity, physical activity, they used to perform in the past, previous generations of people and how much physical activity all of us are performing right now is abysmally low. With such a low level of activity, keeping the balance in the system is difficult.

But once society has settled down, they could grow what they want. As they observed themselves more and more, and life became not about survival but about enhancing one's life to higher levels of perception and experience, then turning vegetarian will naturally become, it's a natural process. It's bound to happen everywhere. If you just want to be all beefy brawn, then you can eat lot of meat and just grow muscles and fight with each other. But if you're looking at how to become sensitive to life, how to become perceptive, how to be able to perceive things beyond what is considered normal perception, then what you put into the system becomes very important. So what is it that passes through the system with least amount of resistance, with least amount of, you know, struggle in the body. So to put this into perspective, let me put it this way. See if you eat raw meat, for example, in the human system compared to carnivorous animals. In all the carnivorous animals, the length of the elementary canal is only three times the length of its body, approximately. In all the herbivores, the length of the elementary canal is five to six times the length of the body. So in a human being it could be anywhere between 24-28 or 30 feet, which is nearly five to six times the length of our body, approximately. In this kind of elementary canal if you put meat, it will travel through this very, very slowly. Approximately, raw meat would take 70-72 hours to pass through the system. If you put cooked meat, it will take 50-52 hours to pass through the system. If you put cooked vegetable meals, it will take anywhere between 24-30 hours to pass through the system. If you put raw vegetables into the system, it will take 12-15 hours to pass through the system. If you put fruit into the system, it will take 1.5-3 hours to pass through the system. So we started recognizing, what is that food which happens in the body with least amount of residue, least amount of impurities and passes through the system very quickly. Because in yoga this is an important thing. We all manage this even now. If we eat anything, within 2.5 hours we must be hungry, or stomach must be empty. But we won't eat. Stomach is empty but we're energetic so we don't eat. So generally, here in the yoga center, everybody does only two meals. One 10 in the morning, 7 in the evening. That's it. I do only one meal most of the days. If I'm traveling, I may do something else a little bit. But otherwise, generally if I'm home, I do only one meal.

Your personal health, your mental well-being, your ability to impact the world and to be able to influence the very atmosphere in which you exist. This is possible for every human being to do this. I am not even talking about the deeper dimensions of your consciousness. I am just talking about the five elements, the fundamental life making material within you. The physical world can be largely mastered with mastery over these five elements and the very basis of yoga, the root of yoga is in the fundamental practice called the Bhuta Shuddhi. Or, how to cleanse the elements in such a way that they will function at their highest. This Bhuta Shuddhi practice is the very core of yogic sciences and every other aspect of yoga, which is called as preparatory in nature. Of yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, all these four aspects of yoga. In the ashtanga yoga, or the eight limb yoga, first four dimensions of yoga are essentially in Bhuta Shuddhi practices. By mastering the five elements, or even having a little control over the five elements, you can feel greatly enhanced both, physically, psychologically, energy wise, and in terms of the world. This is something every youth should start. It is such a crime that in this culture, where almost the entire culture has a yogic basis to it, today we are running schools and parents are bringing up their children without even a scent of yoga in their life, without even any attempt to give them some mastery over the five elements. This is the tragedy that we are seeing right now. It's my vision, my blessing, every parent if you have a child and yourself, you must make sure that some amount of time and energy is dedicated to the enhancement of the life that you are. And the foundations of life, which is your body and mind, must be greatly enhanced. Only then you can craft your own destiny. Otherwise, you are like a dry leaf being thrown around by the wild winds around you.

If food moves out of your stomach bag within three hours, this means you're eating something that your system can handle efficiently. It may not be the best food, but your system is able to handle it. And between one meal and the next meal, if you create a clear gap of five to six hours and in between if there is no other ingestion, you will see the cleansing process in the system on the cellular level. Cleansing will happen. This cleansing on the cellular level is most important and significant for a healthful life. So between meals there must be at least five to six hours of space. If you're over 30 years of age, two meals a day, two good meals a day will suffice. One in the morning and one in the evening. After the evening meal, before you go to bed, there must be a minimum of three hours. And if there is a certain amount of physical activity, not necessarily very heavy or strenuous activity, just simple walking or maybe a dance or something like this. Create something for yourself where, about at least 20 to 30 minutes there is some physical activity after the evening meal. If you do this, largely, your system will be healthy. If one goes to bed with food still inside the stomach bag, a certain level of inertia is generated in the system. This inertia, physiologically it's like accelerating towards death. Death is ultimate inertia. And if you go to bed with stomach full, one thing is it generates inertia. Another dimension is the stomach bag is full means it will create pressure on other organs in the abdomen region. This will also lead to various kinds of health issues. It's very important when you go to bed, again, food has moved out of the stomach bag. That the bag is not heavy. When it comes to activity, in this brief time I don't want to give you an exercise regimen. The simple thing that we need to understand is, our body is capable of bending forward, bending backward and twisting sideways on either side. This much activity must happen. Whatever we do, in whatever form. If you do classical Hatha Yoga, that is the best way to do it, scientific way of doing it. If that is not yet in your life, you must somehow make sure every day you bend forward, backward and twist both ways and squat. So that stretching of the spinal column will happen. This much activity is a must for everybody on a daily basis if we want to keep the entire system in a healthful state. Particularly your neurological system, which will be an issue as one ages. The volume of rest that an individual needs is determined by various factors. What the body needs is restfulness, not necessarily sleep. Most people understand that sleep is the only way to rest. No. If you are in a lively state of restfulness moment to moment in your life, the volume of sleep you actually require will come down.

So that's all is happening in the body. There are cancerous cells. These are criminal cells. They're running around. If they're loafing around by themselves, no problem. If they all gather in one place, if they meet in one place and they hit it off, then it's a problem. Before they gang up, if you keep breaking them up here and there, killing a few guys. Everyday neem just does that. It just reduces. It keeps the number of cancerous cells in the body within a certain percentage where it doesn't really gang up against the system. So it's a very important thing to consum neem. Only thing about neem is, if you consume it in excess quantity it also kills the sperm cells. That is, we will have the fortune of a reduced population if everybody in the world consumes enough neem. Because it's a spermicide it must be consumed in small quantities because it's not for us to decide what should happen to an individual. And women, when they are pregnant, up to four months of pregnancy or to be safe, up to five months of pregnancy, one should not consume neem because it is a spermicide. When the fetus is developing, the role of the sperm is still there to a certain point. Four months is what is prescribed. I am saying five months. One can start after five months.

Non-vegetarian food is mainly consumed because you need protein. Vegetarian diets, if it's cooked vegetarian meals, generally the protein level is low. That's one big mistake that's happening in India is, too much cooked vegetarian food, protein levels are low. But you need only 3% of your body is actually protein. Almost every vegetable, every fruit, if it's eaten, in its raw condition has the necessary protein that your body wants. But when you cook it, it's not enough. With non-vegetarian food, the protein content is too high. If you consume too much of protein, it causes cancer. Western countries have far more, larger incidents of cancer than in the eastern countries. One main reason is excessive protein through non-vegetarian food. You do one thing, you go on a proper balanced vegetarian diet with at least 40 to 50% of it live food, uncooked condition. You will see you will be so much brighter, livelier. All your diseases will go away. Do you know people go to naturopathic clinics and all their disease goes away? Just because they change the food pattern. That's a proven fact, isn't it? Any number of people have dropped their ailments just by changing their food habits. Today in India, not more than 20% of the population is actually eating properly. Even the reasonably well to do. For example in Madras city. A vegetarian family, well to do means they just eat sambar rice. They are not eating properly, vegetarian meals. They are not eating sufficient vegetables, sufficient fruit, sufficient you know sprouts and nuts and all this. They're just eating sambar, idli, dosa, idli, dosa, idli, dosa. Isn't it? Many homes that just eating idli dosa morning, night, morning, night, isn't it? Whatever they eat, it's all rice. Nothing but rice. With that kind of diet, yes, they won't last very long. But if you eat proper vegetarian meals, then you will see your life gets greatly enhanced.

That's one big mistake that's happening in India is, too much cooked vegetarian food, protein levels are low. But you need only 3% of your body is actually protein. Almost every vegetable, every fruit, if it's eaten, in its raw condition has the necessary protein that your body wants. But when you cook it, it's not enough. With non-vegetarian food, the protein content is too high. If you consume too much of protein, it causes cancer. Western countries have far more, larger incidents of cancer than in the eastern countries. One main reason is excessive protein through non-vegetarian food. You do one thing, you go on a proper balanced vegetarian diet with at least 40 to 50% of it live food, uncooked condition. You will see you will be so much brighter, livelier. ... There is something called as a psychological reality and there is an existential reality. By controlling or handling the psychological reality well, a lot of people can become healthy. A lot. Because for a lot of them that is the cause of their ailment. But there's an existential dimension to this. Existentially, what are you made of, what is the world made of. If you look at it, this is the most fundamental aspect of yoga. This is called as Bhutashuddhi. This means elemental, cleansing of the elemental nature. The whole universe is a manifestation of five elements. So is this body. Out of these five, there are only four that you can really handle. Another one you just experience. It's the ambiance for the other four. So the earth, water, fire, air, and the space. So you only have to handle really four. Four ingredients if they're functioning the way you want them, then everything about you will be great. Out of this four, 72% of your water, I mean your body is actually water. So is the planet. The same composition of the planet you have in your body. About 12% is earth, about 6% is air, 4% is fire, the remaining is space. This is how it is looked at. If you master these four, even if you have a bit of control over these four, you will see miraculously you will generate health within the system. If you fail on this, then the next level of handling this is, nature has evolved certain things in the form of herbs and many things which are helpful to us. So we can learn to use them. If you fail in that, then you can create a psychological structure which will create health for you. If you fail in that, then you go for the chemical treatment. When you wake up in the morning, you are more alive than you were when you went to bed, you feel 10 years younger than the time when you went to bed. If you feel like that, that means you're healthy. There is something called as a psychological reality and there is an existential reality. By controlling or handling the psychological reality well, a lot of people can become healthy. A lot. Because for a lot of them that is the cause of their ailment. But there's an existential dimension to this. Existentially, what are you made of, what is the world made of. If you look at it, this is the most fundamental aspect of yoga. This is called as Bhutashuddhi. This means elemental, cleansing of the elemental nature. The whole universe is a manifestation of five elements. So is this body. Out of these five, there are only four that you can really handle. Another one you just experience. It's the ambiance for the other four. So the earth, water, fire, air, and the space. So you only have to handle really four. Four ingredients if they're functioning the way you want them, then everything about you will be great. Out of this four, 72% of your water, I mean your body is actually water. So is the planet. The same composition of the planet you have in your body. About 12% is earth, about 6% is air, 4% is fire, the remaining is space. This is how it is looked at. If you master these four, even if you have a bit of control over these four, you will see miraculously you will generate health within the system. If you fail on this, then the next level of handling this is, nature has evolved certain things in the form of herbs and many things which are helpful to us. So we can learn to use them. If you fail in that, then you can create a psychological structure which will create health for you. If you fail in that, then you go for the chemical treatment. Hello? And you think you're doing this mess very consciously. No. It's just happening, isn't it? Whatever rubbish you do today, next generation picks it up or rejects it and does the reverse of it, whatever. But, it is a consequence of this generation's culture which breeds the next generation of culture. So culturally what you're eating is not the point. What goes best into this system, what is this machine designed for, what kind of fuel? Knowing this is very important. So if you look at it this way, keeping the body in a certain level of balance and efficiency of digestive process, very important. How much food do you need to maintain the level of activity you wish to maintain in your life? We are talking about fuel efficiency for all our automobiles. You've seen the 1950s, 50s were a little better. 60s and 70s cars in United States. If you break down 10 cars, you could build a battleship. That's how much metal they used to build a car. Well now they're getting sleeker and this is why? One important aspect is that fuel efficiency. To travel a mile, how much are you consuming? Well we're thinking ecological terms, think in terms of your health terms. That is, to process let us say, one unit of energy, how much food do you have to eat means, that much excessive load on the system. There are many scientific processes, we call this as a Bhuta Shuddhi practice. It's an enormous science for people to learn and grasp. But to put it very simply, overnight or for about 6 hours, you keep it in a copper vessel and then drink it. You will see the water will feel very different and various small ailments that people have can be just healed simply by keeping the water in an appropriate space. An appropriate space also means proper aeration is there and how you treat it, above all. Your emotions, your thoughts about the water. There are more cows than people in Montana. But there's a lot of poverty in Montana, people really struggle to earn a living there. ... unless it's grown there. And one of the things that you said today really resonated with me, tonight, was when you wake up in the morning, how do you feel? And so people don't think it's okay to think about themselves and think about how they're feeling and what they need to do each day. So how do you begin to tell somebody, that has to work 12 hours a day, working 2 jobs, comes home to a family, to start engaging in some of these more spiritual and more self-realization types of practices? Because my experience has been, well I'm too busy, you know this would be great. I can get up in the morning and maybe drink some warm water or do something, but to actually take the time to think about themselves is very hard. See, if you think that the work that you're doing is very important, then the first thing that you need to do is work upon yourself. How do you enhance your work without enhancing yourself? You are not going to do anything more than yourself, isn't it? Everything that you do is just an expression of who you are. Without enhancing this, the nature and the quality of your work will never enhance, strive as much as you can. Right now this is the problem with the world, most people are suffering so many things, enormous amount of stress in their day-to-day activity, just to earn a living. Which every worm, insect, bird is doing. But human beings, with such a huge brain, are going through such a struggle just to earn a living. Simply because they're trying to enhance their activity rather than enhancing the person, the me. If you do not enhance this one and you try to enhance activity, it is like you took your old beat up ford in Montana, on a f1 race track. Well it's going to fly in different directions. You need to have an appropriate machine to get onto the track. So if the work, if you think your work and family deserve a better deal, you must work upon yourself. If you don't invest on this one, there will be really no result. Only, you know, just wasteful striving. It is very important that this must be enhanced if you want to enhance the work. There is no other way to do it.

We have to bring it back into the nation's diet. As far back as many centuries, or millennia ago, people have noticed that we were eating a lot of fruit. Because we have the highest variety of fruits in this country. Down below, once a month also he is not eating a single fruit. Children, through the mango season, they go without eating a single mango because it's no more available. Spine tends to contract, you know. It should be like this but it tends to sit back and sometimes grate upon each other, and create tension, and pain, nervous pain. Sometimes very excuriating pain. So if you can help a person to relax and stretch out his spine, it's fine. But too much meddling with the spine is not good. In yoga, we have what is called as angamardana, literally means, anga means the limbs, or the body parts, mardana means to kill, to kill the body parts. So if you do angamardana, then everything in you will disappear from your experience, except your spine. Only the back of your head and your spine will be still in your experience, the rest of it will be like not in your experience. Like some of you are seeing when you sit for shoonya, your hands and legs seem to be missing. So the whole body will be missing, except the spine. So when you get a person into such conditions, then there are many things you can do with the spine. But that is not to be attempted in a chiropractic clinic, it needs a completely different atmosphere. It's not medical, you know, it's not a physical or medical thing, it's a different dimension. I think a chiropractic could help a person to relax his spine, I don't know what else is being done. You should tell me. This is just to allow the system to realign itself. If you give this break, it's very, very good for your health and your body the way it functions. Because the system needs that time to adjust itself. Every day food, every day food, it's a lot of hard work for the body. Give it a little break. If you're not able to fast, on one day you go on something lighter, maybe just juices or something else which is much lighter for the system to handle. Definitely body will be very grateful to you. Yes? Every day loading it up with cooked food is not a good thing to do. So what is its spiritual significance? Because it's a cleansing. If your system is not vibrant, you won't feel like doing anything spiritual, you're feeling lethargic. For a meditator, the biggest enemy is sleep. To sit here with eyes closed and fully alert takes something else. For most people if they close their eyes, should sleep. So to sit here and to be very alert with the eyes closed, takes a certain level of vibrance in the body. So to create this vibrance, we observe how to eat, what to do, how much to eat, all these things. It is not spiritual, but it is providing the right kind of body. Right now if your body is feeling very lethargic, I am talking enlightenment so what the hell. Isn't it? So keeping it vibrant, alert and keeping the body free of pains and problems is important because only then you will seek something bigger. Right now your leg is hurting, really hurting. Just make sure it's not some genetically engineered nonsense whatever. One thing is, it could be genetically modified. They are no more declaring which is modified which is not. Another thing is, you're pumping in fertilizers and pesticides to such an extent, the groundnut is no more a groundnut. Just make sure it's a more organic thing. We see everything as ingredients of life. So this is why, food comes, water comes, air, the sky, the sun, the moon, a stone, a tree, anything. Because it's not something that you can use and throw. Their diet is honey. Honey is one of the best things that you can consume. Psychological stability, physical well-being, vitality. All these things can be greatly enhanced simply consuming daily honey. Honey is the only substance found on the planet whose chemical composition is very close to that of human blood. The moment we do something consciously, suddenly that human being looks very refined and wonderful. Just because somebody walks and speaks consciously, doesn't he become a beautiful human being? Yes or no? That's all. So why is it that we're trying to develop habits as if this is a good thing. Habit means fixed realities, where you don't have to think. You get up in the morning and it'll happen to you. No. Don't try to automize your life. That is not efficiency, that is efficiency of the machine. This one is supposed to function intelligently and consciously. Nobody is expecting it to function like a machine. So, about food and stuff. Food must be suitable for the body that we eat for. It is for the body. This is the building material for this body, the food that you're eating. What is the appropriate food? Unfortunately, it is all messed up right now. Traditionally we ate very sensibly in this country. But this thousand years of invasions have brought other kinds of food cultures. And today the national diet is pizza or pasta. What is it? Which is one? I don't know. Both are competing. So, we're losing our sense about food, it's definitely time to look at what is the most suitable thing. If I go into that food, it's a very long process. But, you must experiment with food. Not just by the tongue, but by the body. You eat something today and see, just learn to observe. How agile and how active your body feels after eating this food. If it feels like it wants to go to the grave, that's not good food. If it feels like it wants to be alive after eating this, except coffee. Because that's a stimulant. If you eat food and your body feels very agile and alive, that means it's good food. Body is liking it. If you eat something, it feels dull, that means it's not liking it. It's having difficulty with it. That's why it feels dull. So, just on this basis. There's so much, I mean this is a very simplistic way of putting it.

If something appears on my plate, if I just feel this, I know what to eat and what not to eat. What I should not eat, I don't taste it and then reject it. I just don't eat. Because my hands are the first level, not tasting in the sense the tongue taste, but knowing the food. First thing is, knowing the food. You want to know a person, you guys go and shake their hands. I'm usually avoiding that. That's a good strategy. But the food that's going to become a part of you, first thing is your hands. Even if you physically don't touch it, just being conscious and being there, it clearly tells you how the food will behave within you. Whether this particular food on this particular day, should it go into you or not. Because everyday your body is not the same thing. Everyday, every moment, it's different. If you feel the food, you just know whether this food has to go into you on this day or not. If that much awareness is brought in, we don't have to go on telling people, what they should eat. Every meal they must decide what they should eat in that meal. There is no one prescription, that this is what you should eat for your life. That will feel too claustrophobic. That only this I can eat.

So we go to bed hungry, always. People think they cannot sleep. They can sleep. And, I've seen hundreds and thousands of people who just become healthy and well, simply because they're not fueling up all the time and the tank is spilling. If you come to our ashram, all the people there, who are physically immensely active, eat 10 O' clock in the morning, 7 O' clock in the evening. Two meals. How many doctors have been telling me that they will die of malnourishment. This will happen, that will happen. You must do this, you must do that. I eat only one meal a day, most of the days. One big meal I eat, and that's it. And doctors telling me, "No, no, Sadhguru. The way you're travelling, this will happen, that will happen. You must eat at least once in four hours. Something you must eat." I said, "Leave me alone, I'm doing fine." But now, a big university, in America comes up with this called 'intermittent fasting'. It's not nonsense, it's good. But, they re-discovered something that we have known forever. Now, everybody is saying there must be a 16 hour gap, then all your ailments will go away. Say it loudly. Stupid. That's all, if you say that slowly it'll drop off. Now there is a certain chemical factor to this. Your chemistry has become dependent on nicotine or caffeine or whatever. That we will change, you just see. You do Shambhavi Mahamudra, suddenly your whole system is so fired up. The need to smoke, the need to drink coffee, tea, everything just evaporates. Now if you do it, it's only for the pleasure of it. One day you feel like drinking coffee, you drink it. One day you feel like smoking, you smoke. That's upto you. But the compulsion will be taken away. Physiological dependence will be taken away. We'll do that with the practice. But first you see that it's stupid to do it.

If you look at it, all life on this planet is coming from the earth. This body is also the same soil, this is also same soil, if there is a earthworm that is also the same soil. But see how it has become, how this has become, how that has become. If I give you, you like a mango or a banana? Mango. Ya, I know, you're ruling the state right now. Now if you eat a mango, this mango becomes a woman in you. If I eat a mango, the same mango becomes a man in me. If a cow eats a mango, the same mango becomes a cow in the cow. Why is this happening? There is a certain information, or software, in you. Whatever you eat, it transforms into a woman. If I eat, it transforms into a man. If a cow eats, that becomes a cow. So every life is happening the way it is happening because of a certain dimension of information, or in modern terminology let's call it software. There is a certain software, which is an arrangement of information. Now the idea is to eat as simple a software as possible. If you eat that kind of life which is a very simple software, your ability to override that software and make it entirely a part of you is very good. As that software gets complex, more and more complex, your ability to integrate it goes down. So especially if it's a creature which has some sense of thought and emotion, if it has emotion then you should not eat it. This is the understanding. An animal which has any emotion displays certain emotions especially if it displays emotion which is near to human emotion, you should not eat it because it will not integrate itself. So because of this, there is not enough activity in that region. That's one reason. Another thing is reproductive process is not made use of, that's another reason. So if you're not using your reproduction process, that is, you're not bearing a child before you're 21 years of age, it's very very important that you must do Hatha Yoga. If you do gym, if you run, if you do this and that. Run, to some extent. But if it is gyming and doing muscles and you're looking fit. That's not good. You must do intense Hatha Yoga. In today's world, the way the society is structured, the way that many aspects of life have arranged itself, women have to care much more about their health than men. Simply because nature has invested a very elaborate reproductive system in a woman. We were all born out of a woman's womb. So there was an elaborate system inside. Normally, if you look back, they would start using reproductory system by the age, they were 15, 16. It was put to use probably throughout their life. At least throughout their reproductive life, in some way it was put to use. If a woman had 6, or 7, or 8 children in her lifetime, most probably it was spread out throughout. So reproductory organs were used in a certain way. Because of that, she did not have those issues as they have today. Another reason is, both men and women, of course, were working hard physically. Physical work. Because of physical work, there never was any fat around the abdomen. Another dimension of this is also, urban young women these days, a lot of them are very disturbed about something or the other. At one time only your family, or your children, or your husband, or your immediate friends, disturbed you. Now you have friendship across the globe, and just about anybody can freak you anytime. And between one meal and the next meal, if you create a clear gap of 5-6 hours and in between if there is no other ingestion, you will see the cleansing process in the system on the cellular level, cleansing will happen. This cleansing on the cellular level is most important and significant for a healthful life. So between meals there must be at least 5-6 hours of space. If you are over 30 years of age, two meals a day, two good meals a day will suffice. One in the morning and one in the evening. And if there is a certain amount of physical activity, not necessarily very heavy or strenuous activity, just simple walking, or maybe a dance or something like this. When it absorbs the sodium levels, which are very delicately balanced, will drop. Rest of the body also is affected, but may not be noticeable. But in the brain, sodium levels dropping, will lead to swelling of the brain. This does not mean that your brain is growing. Swelling means it's a kind of sickness okay? Not expansion of the brain. It’s swelling up because of lack of sodium content. So because there is not enough sodium, more water goes into the brain trying to supply the required sodium to keep the balance. So more water in your brain means you will slosh - psychological imbalances will come. See, if you drink lots of water at one go, the body will decide, how much to absorb, and how much to throw out. But if you keep sipping through the day, the body kind of gets deceived and tends to absorb more water than it should. But let’s say right now you drink two litres of water. All of it is not going to go into the system. What is needed, it will take, the rest of it will be shunted out. Nobody needs to drink water simply because you think it is a good thing to do. When you feel thirsty, you must drink water. Just to ensure you are drinking enough, drink 10% more than what you actually need. Couple of cups more, just to ensure that you don’t drink less. You have a certain amount of time before you can drink, that it is not an emergency. At the same time, when you need water, when you are thirsty and you don’t drink, it will cause damage to the system. The damage to the heart is immense when the water that is needed is not is not there in the system. But when I say water, it is not about drinking liquid water. You must eat high water content foods. If you eat a fruit, it is nearly 90% water. Vegetables and other things are over 70% water. When you consume food, at least it must be level with the percentage of water content in your own body. So any food that you eat should be at least 70% water content. This is why vegetables, fruits must be part of your diet so that it is there.

And properly worshipped, everyday it is worshipped before you drink, because we’ve always been conscious that water has memory and if it has memory of the right things it will do the right things within you. If it has memory of the wrong things, it will do wrong things within you. I just came to some house in Coimbatore. It’s part of the Indian tradition that if somebody comes home the first thing is always, the first form of welcome is a glass of water. Always. So this lady brought a glass of water on a tray. I looked at her, she looked like Kali to me. Have you heard of Kali? All of you? The non-Indian people, you heard of Kali? Kali is a terrible form of Goddess, tongue hanging out, blood oozing everywhere, and all that. So I said, you are looking like Kali today. I don’t want to drink this water. Then I said, okay, you sip the water first. That means, she thinks that I am using her as a food taster. She sips it and she says, it’s good water. What she means by that is, I have not poisoned it. I said you don’t have to poison it the way you are is enough. Just give it to me a moment. She gave the water to me. I just held it in my hands for one minute and gave it to her. I said, drink it. She drank it and burst into tears and started crying loudly. “It is sweet! It is sweet!” she is crying. I said, that’s all it is. This is all your damn life is all about. You can either turn in sweet or make it poisonous - it’s up to you.
