So a journalist came and asked him, he was still not yet so famous in Hollywood, he had just come to Hollywood and talks were going on because he gave some demonstrations...

... and he was almost super-human. So talks were going on, a journalist came to interview him. And he asked him, "Okay people are talking about all this, give me a demonstration about your power." So Bruce Lee made him stand here, he was at a swimming pool. The swimming pool was nine feet away. He was standing here, the swimming pool edge is nine feet away. He said, "You just stand here," and he kept his fist just three inches away from the journalist's body and hoo! The man went and fell in the pool. A 185 pound man went and fell in the pool with a three inch punch. Just that's all. No like this, just. That's all. Because you're using the Manipuraka, hoo! The man will just fly. Manipuraka could be mobile but that's not a good thing to do. Some of the people, who are into certain type of martial arts, are making their Manipuraka mobile to demonstrate certain things. That is not good at all. Once you learn to move your Manipuraka in a certain way, that too to do demos and stuff, such a person will not live long. So I'm not saying this only with this relation, because anyway he's dead, that's easy to say. Not in that context. Innocently they have shown these things in some of the things. There are yogis who move their Manipuraka and do things. Such people never physically move. They sit in the same place. Once your maintenance center is moved around, you don't move your physical body, you sit in the same place always. I think in some of these martial arts movies, innocently, not knowing what it is, they have shown this. Some old people are sitting, somebody falls down but they're always sitting. Have you seen this?

... source of your life a commodtiy, your father, mother, children, wife, husband, become commodities, is not far away. It's a natural consequence. You don't have to do it, anyway it'll happen. If you make the raw material dirt, the product is bound to be dirt, isn't it? The most foolish thing that we have done in the name of science is, we have reduced everything in the universe into a commodity. In this culture, we don't see anything as a commodity. We see everything as ingredients of life. So this is why, food comes, water comes, air, the sky, the sun, the moon, a stone, a tree, anything. Because it's not something that you can use and throw. You cannot use and throw anything in this existence. It passes through you. It is you for a certain period of time. After that it becomes something else. You're only a relay runner, you're not the runner on the planet. Everything goes through you. The air that you're breathing right now, the very body that you carry right now, it has been millions of bodies in the past. It has been an insect, an animal, a snake, a cow, a monkey, a human being. I'm not talking about evolutionary process, I'm talking about the soil going through every form of life. So this is not a commodity. This is older than you, wiser than you, far more intelligent than you, far more capable than you, a far bigger process than you are as a person.

The best way to consume honey

Transcript: If you cook honey, it'll become poisonous. Honey should not be cooked. I know people are baking it, cooking it in cakes and other things. It's not a good thing to do. Certain part of the honey turns poisonous if you cook it. You should put it in warm water, not in boiling hot water. If you put it in hot water, it sets off a certain kind of enzymes, behave in a certain way in the honey, that it tends...

... to take away weight from the body. If you put it in cold water, it behaves in a different way. And, accordingly, it adds weight to the body. It is not that a few spoons of honey that you're taking is putting weight to your body. It is just that it sets off a certain reaction in your system that your absorption rate is such that you tend to gain weight. So, honey, it has different types of impacts on the system. If it's consumed raw, it has one kind of impact. If it's consumed in cold water, it has another kind of impact. If it is consumed in warm water, it's a different kind of impact. We want to consume it in warm water, here, because we want the system to open up. If you want to integrate the system just for health. Somebody is feeling, what, anaemic. Anemia means, on one level, the blood has lost its iron. That means you lost your steel. Okay? You lost the strength in the body, you'll feel exhausted. Simply exhausted for nothing. Because once the necessary iron is not there, your ability to carry oxygen through the body is less. That means, your body, your heart, your brain, everything will be on a lower level of function because you don't have enough oxygen. So, to take care of this, one of the simple things is, you consume a little bit of honey in warm water on a daily basis. And, you will see, slowly the RBC content will go up. If there's more oxygen in the blood, suddenly you feel a burst of energy. Suddenly, everything is active. The rejuvenation system in the body is going up. The dead cells are being replaced quickly. The level of inertia that you feel in the body is much lower. The level of intertia that you feel in your mind is much lower. So consuming honey will bring a certain balance to the circulatory system. Which is very, very essential for a yoga practitioner, because you're pushing the body in certain ways. So keeping the blood chemistry in a certain balance, keeping the blood pure, will definitely happen with a regular consumption of honey. And it's very necessary for someone who practices yoga.

Honey – The ‘Superfood’ for energy

Transcript: In Karnataka there are certain tribes called Jenakurubas. Jenakurubas means they're honey shepherds. Sometime ago I had the opportunity to live with them for a short while. There diet is like this. First thing in the morning, one bamboo glass, you know, bamboo's shoots sliced off like this. He takes about 3/4th of a litre. 3/4th of a litre of honey in the morning, that's all the diet. You drink 3/4th...

... of a litre of honey in the morning and then you're out in the forest. In a day easily you walk 30-40 kilometers. And you climb a minimum of 50 trees. Then get off. Up and down, up and down the trees. And till evening, there is nothing else. As you harvest honey, whatever comes on your hand you lick that. So in a day almost more than a litre, litre and a half honey you're taking in. When you come back in the evening, there is some cereal. Usually it's called jowla, that's jowar or, you know, it's like maize. Maize or ragi or something like this. Their main staple diet is honey. And you drink this 3/4th of a litre of honey, and whole day you're so active. But there is no hunger, you're just fired up like that. They live on this. They're called honey shepherds. Their diet is honey. Honey is one of the best things that you can consume. Psychological stability, physical well-being, vitality. All these things can be greatly enhanced simply consuming daily honey. Honey is the only substance found on the planet whose chemical composition is very close to that of human blood. We change a few things, it's almost like blood. Daily consumption of honey can do a lot for your health. Especially people who have excess mucus problems. It's very good for your heart, it's good for your brains, it keeps your mind alert, and it's highly energetic. So daily consumption of honey can do a lot. Especially if you have growing children, they must consume honey on a daily basis. It'll do a lot for the development of their intelligence and everything. Even the ashgourd. So, these practices there in the Isha Yoga Center, whenever calls comes up. Isha Vidya, you know, educating rural children, raising funds for it became a problem. Then, many people in the Yoga Center took this up, on Wednesday evenings, I won't have dinner and let that money go to the children. I think you must find 7 causes like this. I can give you 7. Monday for Rally for Rivers. Tuesday for Cauvery Calling. Wednesday for Isha Vidya. Thursday is called Guruvaar, this is for your Sadhguru. Friday for Devi, because that's her day. Saturday, you have your dinner, I'm reducing one day. Sunday, for Dhyanalinga. Like this, you find 7, or at least 6 causes. Where 6 dinners you give away, morning you eat. Alright? 10 O'clock in the morning you eat well, and again eat 10 O'clock tomorrow morning. And also, because you need to keep social distancing, drive out of the town and walk back. Get into a bus, take a, buy a ticket for 10kms away, and just walk back. Best you go without your phone and your wallet. So that you have to walk back. Do something, come on.

Health Tip – Eat consciously – Don’t develop ‘good’ food habits

Transcript: I want to tell you, there is no such thing as good habit and bad habit. Habit means, you're functioning unconsciously. If you're functioning unconsciously, that's a bad thing. Because the whole thing about being human is, we're capable of doing things consciously. That is the beauty of being human. That we can do everything consciously. What an animal does unconsciously, we can do the same thing consciously....

... We can eat unconsciously or we can eat consciously. We can breathe unconsciously or we can breathe consciously. Everything that we can do, we can do it consciously. The moment we do something consciously, suddenly that human being looks very refined and wonderful. Just because somebody walks and speaks consciously, doesn't he become a beautiful human being? Yes or no? That's all. So why is it that we're trying to develop habits as if this is a good thing. Habit means fixed realities, where you don't have to think. You get up in the morning and it'll happen to you. No. Don't try to automize your life. That is not efficiency, that is efficiency of the machine. This one is supposed to function intelligently and consciously. Nobody is expecting it to function like a machine. So, about food and stuff. Food must be suitable for the body that we eat for. It is for the body. This is the building material for this body, the food that you're eating. What is the appropriate food? Unfortunately, it is all messed up right now. Traditionally we ate very sensibly in this country. But this thousand years of invasions have brought other kinds of food cultures. And today the national diet is pizza or pasta. What is it? Which is one? I don't know. Both are competing. So, we're losing our sense about food, it's definitely time to look at what is the most suitable thing. If I go into that food, it's a very long process. But, you must experiment with food. Not just by the tongue, but by the body. You eat something today and see, just learn to observe. How agile and how active your body feels after eating this food. If it feels like it wants to go to the grave, that's not good food. If it feels like it wants to be alive after eating this, except coffee. Because that's a stimulant. If you eat food and your body feels very agile and alive, that means it's good food. Body is liking it. If you eat something, it feels dull, that means it's not liking it. It's having difficulty with it. That's why it feels dull. So, just on this basis. There's so much, I mean this is a very simplistic way of putting it.

... utmost gratitude. If you approach it with a certain sense of gratitude and reverence towards the food that you eat. When I say reverence, it may feel like too much for you, but I'm asking you. Let's say we put you in a room and you had nothing to eat for 5 days. If God appears in front of you, what will you ask for? Food. So that's how important it is. You must understand, the food on your plate is not just a substance. It is not a material. It is not a commodity. It is life. It is the life-making material for you. So, you must treat it as such. Right now, when it's on the plate, when it's out there it has no value. But the moment you consume it and it becomes your flesh and blood, now suddenly it's of immense value. Why do we live like this? It's very important, when it comes on your plate itself, you must treat it as a part of yourself. With great reverence, you must consume. Just the way you consume it, if you change that, food will behave very differently within you. This is what conscious means. If people say your consciousness has no impact on your life, only chemical structures have impact, I'm very sorry for them. Because that's not how life works. Human consciousness has a deep and profound impact on everything that we touch. Especially the food, that we are making another life as a part of ourselves. When we're doing such an act, it's very very important, we treat it with utmost gratitude and reverence.

Health tip – Touch your food and eat with your hands

Transcript: When you, when you don't touch the food, you do not know what it is. If food is not good enough to be touched, I don't know how it's good enough to be eaten. So we should not listen to our mothers, and eat with our fingers, because touching our food helps us stay in contact with it. You can, the cleanliness of your hands, is entirely in your hands. The cleanliness of the fork, is not entirely in your...

... hands. This is true. And, nobody else, but you, have used these hands. So, there is an assurance as to how clean or not clean it is right now. The fork, you do not know who's used it, how they've used it, for what they used it. And, all they have to do is wipe it with a tissue and give it to you, and it looks pretty clean. Above all, you don't feel the food. The first thing that's been taught to us is, if food appears in front of you, to hold your hands upon the food for a few moments. Just to feel how the food is. If something appears on my plate, if I just feel this, I know what to eat and what not to eat. What I should not eat, I don't taste it and then reject it. I just don't eat. Because my hands are the first level, not tasting in the sense the tongue taste, but knowing the food. First thing is, knowing the food. You want to know a person, you guys go and shake their hands. I'm usually avoiding that. That's a good strategy. But the food that's going to become a part of you, first thing is your hands. Even if you physically don't touch it, just being conscious and being there, it clearly tells you how the food will behave within you. Whether this particular food on this particular day, should it go into you or not. Because everyday your body is not the same thing. Everyday, every moment, it's different. If you feel the food, you just know whether this food has to go into you on this day or not. If that much awareness is brought in, we don't have to go on telling people, what they should eat. Every meal they must decide what they should eat in that meal. There is no one prescription, that this is what you should eat for your life. That will feel too claustrophobic. That only this I can eat.

... touched, I don't know how it's good enough to be eaten. So we should not listen to our mothers, and eat with our fingers, because touching our food helps us stay in contact with it. You can, the cleanliness of your hands, is entirely in your hands. The cleanliness of the fork, is not entirely in your hands. This is true. And, nobody else, but you, have used these hands. So, there is an assurance as to how clean or not clean it is right now. The fork, you do not know who's used it, how they've used it, for what they used it. And, all they have to do is wipe it with a tissue and give it to you, and it looks pretty clean. Above all, you don't feel the food. The first thing that's been taught to us is, if food appears in front of you, to hold your hands upon the food for a few moments. Just to feel how the food is. If something appears on my plate, if I just feel this, I know what to eat and what not to eat. What I should not eat, I don't taste it and then reject it. I just don't eat. Because my hands are the first level, not tasting in the sense the tongue taste, but knowing the food. First thing is, knowing the food. You want to know a person, you guys go and shake their hands. I'm usually avoiding that. That's a good strategy. But the food that's going to become a part of you, first thing is your hands. Even if you physically don't touch it, just being conscious and being there, it clearly tells you how the food will behave within you. Whether this particular food on this particular day, should it go into you or not. Because everyday your body is not the same thing. Everyday, every moment, it's different. If you feel the food, you just know whether this food has to go into you on this day or not. If that much awareness is brought in, we don't have to go on telling people, what they should eat. Every meal they must decide what they should eat in that meal. There is no one prescription, that this is what you should eat for your life. That will feel too claustrophobic. ... its best only when your stomach is empty. So we always make sure, we eat in such a way, how much ever we eat, our stomach must be always empty within 2-2.5 hours time, maximum. So we go to bed hungry, always. People think they cannot sleep. They can sleep. And, I've seen hundreds and thousands of people who just become healthy and well, simply because they're not fueling up all the time and the tank is spilling. If you come to our ashram, all the people there, who are physically immensely active, eat 10 O' clock in the morning, 7 O' clock in the evening. Two meals. How many doctors have been telling me that they will die of malnourishment. This will happen, that will happen. You must do this, you must do that. I eat only one meal a day, most of the days. One big meal I eat, and that's it. And doctors telling me, "No, no, Sadhguru. The way you're travelling, this will happen, that will happen. You must eat at least once in four hours. Something you must eat." I said, "Leave me alone, I'm doing fine." But now, a big university, in America comes up with this called 'intermittent fasting'. It's not nonsense, it's good. But, they re-discovered something that we have known forever. Now, everybody is saying there must be a 16 hour gap, then all your ailments will go away. What the hell were we saying all these thousands of years?

A well, very efficient machine, you make it inefficient machine, is it not stupid? Is it good or bad? There's no such thing. Ya, we know it's bad, but. See, that's the whole thing. The moment you call it bad, you can't leave it. See, he well knows what's bad. Why are you giving it titles that it is not? It's just stupid, that's all. If you see something as stupid, you can't be doing it everyday. Somewhere, you feel smarter than other people. Yes? No, because it tastes. See, now slowly in the world, people have gotten against you. Just ten years ago, if you blow it into somebody's face. You felt great, they felt stupid. When you were just ten year old kid, you wanted to suck in and blow it out into somebody's face. It felt like a smart thing to do. You tell me, smoking. A machine that doesn't smoke, to make it smoke. Right now we're working so hard to make our cars smoke less, isn't it? Enormous amount of research into fuels and engines and everything is going on to make our cars smoke less, isn't it? A non-smoking machine, if you make it smoke, is it stupid or intelligent? Stupid. Say it loudly. Stupid. That's all, if you say that slowly it'll drop off. Now there is a certain chemical factor to this. Your chemistry has become dependent on nicotine or caffeine or whatever. That we will change, you just see. You do Shambhavi Mahamudra, suddenly your whole system is so fired up. The need to smoke, the need to drink coffee, tea, everything just evaporates. Now if you do it, it's only for the pleasure of it. One day you feel like drinking coffee, you drink it. One day you feel like smoking, you smoke. That's upto you. But the compulsion will be taken away. Physiological dependence will be taken away. We'll do that with the practice. But first you see that it's stupid to do it.

You just want to work in Delhi, what kind of food you should eat. You want to think in a certain way, what kind of food you should eat. For all these we have very clear prescriptions. Now when it comes to food, what it means is, we're taking another life. Whatever that is, it may be plant life, animal life, whatever. You're taking another life, ingesting it, and you have to make it your life. That's the whole thing. What is your life, what is that life. If you look at it, all life on this planet is coming from the earth. This body is also the same soil, this is also same soil, if there is a earthworm that is also the same soil. But see how it has become, how this has become, how that has become. If I give you, you like a mango or a banana? Mango. Ya, I know, you're ruling the state right now. Now if you eat a mango, this mango becomes a woman in you. If I eat a mango, the same mango becomes a man in me. If a cow eats a mango, the same mango becomes a cow in the cow. Why is this happening? There is a certain information, or software, in you. Whatever you eat, it transforms into a woman. If I eat, it transforms into a man. If a cow eats, that becomes a cow. So every life is happening the way it is happening because of a certain dimension of information, or in modern terminology let's call it software. There is a certain software, which is an arrangement of information. Now the idea is to eat as simple a software as possible. If you eat that kind of life which is a very simple software, your ability to override that software and make it entirely a part of you is very good. As that software gets complex, more and more complex, your ability to integrate it goes down. So especially if it's a creature which has some sense of thought and emotion, if it has emotion then you should not eat it. This is the understanding. An animal which has any emotion displays certain emotions especially if it displays emotion which is near to human emotion, you should not eat it because it will not integrate itself. That animal nature will start manifesting itself.

Because we don't eat properly, or we eat very properly and we don't use the body properly. So, apart from this, there are other aspects to life. To put it very simply, as you exercise your body. If you just do this thousand times a day. Just do like this thousand times a day and after one month just see how well your hand will work. Nothing else, just sit here and just do this thousand times a day. After 30 days, you'll find your hand works wonderfully well. If you do that with your brains. It will work wonderfully well in a month's time. If you do this with your heart, it'll work wonderfully well. If you do that with your life energies, it will work wonderfully well. When all these things work well, that's health. So, you just have to use your body. Use your head. And use your energies. If these three things are well exercised and balanced, you will be healthy.

... that's not physical enough. If you're working in a field, that would be different. I think the problems that you're mentioning, largely are happening in urban women. Simply because their physical activity, even if they excercise, it's half an hour, one hour in the morning, rest of the time they're sitting, sitting, sitting. So because of this, there is not enough activity in that region. That's one reason. Another thing is reproductive process is not made use of, that's another reason. So if you're not using your reproduction process, that is, you're not bearing a child before you're 21 years of age, it's very very important that you must do Hatha Yoga. If you do gym, if you run, if you do this and that. Run, to some extent. But if it is gyming and doing muscles and you're looking fit. That's not good. You must do intense Hatha Yoga. In today's world, the way the society is structured, the way that many aspects of life have arranged itself, women have to care much more about their health than men. Simply because nature has invested a very elaborate reproductive system in a woman. We were all born out of a woman's womb. So there was an elaborate system inside. Normally, if you look back, they would start using reproductory system by the age, they were 15, 16. It was put to use probably throughout their life. At least throughout their reproductive life, in some way it was put to use. If a woman had 6, or 7, or 8 children in her lifetime, most probably it was spread out throughout. So reproductory organs were used in a certain way. Because of that, she did not have those issues as they have today. Another reason is, both men and women, of course, were working hard physically. Physical work. Because of physical work, there never was any fat around the abdomen. Another dimension of this is also, urban young women these days, a lot of them are very disturbed about something or the other. At one time only your family, or your children, or your husband, or your immediate friends, disturbed you. Now you have friendship across the globe, and just about anybody can freak you anytime. So just a message is enough that you worry about it for next three days. For whatever reasons, I don't want to blame it on any one thing. It has become a norm that everybody must be stressed. So this also can be very easily handled. The basic body chemistry can be brought to such a level of balance within you if you do the right kind of yoga.

Any food that you eat, if it lasts over 3 hours, that means you have eaten bad food. And that is something to be either avoided or reduced in quantity. If...

... food moves out of your stomach bag within 3 hours, this means you're eating something that your system can handle efficiently. It may not be the best food, but your system is able to handle it. And between one meal and the next meal, if you create a clear gap of 5-6 hours and in between if there is no other ingestion, you will see the cleansing process in the system on the cellular level, cleansing will happen. This cleansing on the cellular level is most important and significant for a healthful life. So between meals there must be at least 5-6 hours of space. If you are over 30 years of age, two meals a day, two good meals a day will suffice. One in the morning and one in the evening. After the evening meal, before you go to bed, there must be a minimum of 3 hours. And if there is a certain amount of physical activity, not necessarily very heavy or strenuous activity, just simple walking, or maybe a dance or something like this. Create something for yourself where about at least 20-30 minutes there is some physical activity after the evening meal. If you do this, largely, your system will be healthy. If you watch the natural cycles of the body, based on this natural cycle, once in one mandala, that is, one mandala is 40-48 days. In these 48 days, 3 days will happen where your body does not need food. If that awareness is not there as to which say that is, for that in India they have fixed what is called as Ekadashi. That means 4 days before the full moon, 4 days before the new moon day, people don't eat. Wake up in the morning, no breakfast, no lunch. Only after the sun sets, they eat one meal. Nowhere else do people simply drink water. When they get thirsty they drink water, otherwise they are fine. Even in a desert. It’s only in America, in cold climates, everybody is carrying a bottle and sipping continuously because...

... the marketing machines have done this to them. That they must drink lots of water, excessive consumption of water. Especially if it’s done in small sips, the body absorbs. When it absorbs the sodium levels, which are very delicately balanced, will drop. Rest of the body also is affected, but may not be noticeable. But in the brain, sodium levels dropping, will lead to swelling of the brain. This does not mean that your brain is growing. Swelling means it's a kind of sickness okay? Not expansion of the brain. It’s swelling up because of lack of sodium content. So because there is not enough sodium, more water goes into the brain trying to supply the required sodium to keep the balance. So more water in your brain means you will slosh - psychological imbalances will come. See, if you drink lots of water at one go, the body will decide, how much to absorb, and how much to throw out. But if you keep sipping through the day, the body kind of gets deceived and tends to absorb more water than it should. But let’s say right now you drink two litres of water. All of it is not going to go into the system. What is needed, it will take, the rest of it will be shunted out. Nobody needs to drink water simply because you think it is a good thing to do. When you feel thirsty, you must drink water. Just to ensure you are drinking enough, drink 10% more than what you actually need. Couple of cups more, just to ensure that you don’t drink less. You have a certain amount of time before you can drink, that it is not an emergency. At the same time, when you need water, when you are thirsty and you don’t drink, it will cause damage to the system. The damage to the heart is immense when the water that is needed is not is not there in the system. But when I say water, it is not about drinking liquid water. You must eat high water content foods. If you eat a fruit, it is nearly 90% water. Vegetables and other things are over 70% water. When you consume food, at least it must be level with the percentage of water content in your own body. So any food that you eat should be at least 70% water content. This is why vegetables, fruits must be part of your diet so that it is there.

... is somewhere around 36 degree centigrade, so you can drink upto 40 degrees or 32 degrees. This is the best way to consume. If you are a student, that is, you want to absorb knowledge, you are not looking for transformation, you are only interested in absorbing knowledge, then you must drink within 8 degrees variation. That is, you can drink upto 44 degrees and 28 degrees. If you are a householder, who is not interested in any transformation, or learning, you just want to manage your wife and children and husband, that is all your thing is. Then you can drink upto 12 degrees of variation from both sides. Beyond that, is not conducive for anybody. So, that is an unpopular thing to say, but it’s important that whatever you consume is somewhere in the range of the body temperature. Not too far away from that, because it will disturb the way the water within the system behaves by consuming water or any substance which is very very far away from the body temperature. It is no more your grandmother talk. Even today in traditional Southern Indian homes, if you go and see, water is kept like a deity. With vibhuti, with scared ash smeared on it. And properly worshipped, everyday it is worshipped before you drink, because we’ve always been conscious that water has memory and if it has memory of the right things it will do the right things within you. If it has memory of the wrong things, it will do wrong things within you. I just came to some house in Coimbatore. It’s part of the Indian tradition that if somebody comes home the first thing is always, the first form of welcome is a glass of water. Always. So this lady brought a glass of water on a tray. I looked at her, she looked like Kali to me. Have you heard of Kali? All of you? The non-Indian people, you heard of Kali? Kali is a terrible form of Goddess, tongue hanging out, blood oozing everywhere, and all that. So I said, you are looking like Kali today. I don’t want to drink this water. Then I said, okay, you sip the water first. That means, she thinks that I am using her as a food taster. She sips it and she says, it’s good water. What she means by that is, I have not poisoned it. I said you don’t have to poison it the way you are is enough. Just give it to me a moment. She gave the water to me. I just held it in my hands for one minute and gave it to her. I said, drink it. She drank it and burst into tears and started crying loudly. “It is sweet! It is sweet!” she is crying. I said, that’s all it is. This is all your damn life is all about. You can either turn in sweet or make it poisonous - it’s up to you.
